Week 15

Continuing the march toward normal proportions, the babies legs now out-measure their arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Our little two fetus are squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, but I can't feel the movements just yet.

Week 14

Our adorable little fetus are busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine, and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys, and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over their body for warmth.

Week 13

Each fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords. The babies are approaching normal proportions, with their head now only one third the size of their body. And intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to their tummy -- much more convenient.

Week 12

We had out first appointment with Eastside Fetal Maternal Medicine. Beacuse there are two, I am considered a "high risk" pregnancy. Dr. Case does 3D ultrasounds to closely examine the heart and other major organs. We are please to report that A and B look very healthy. Tyler and I are both just amazed at their development. Each week, it is incredible to see their changes and how they're prepping for the outside world.

We also go a guess from Dr. Case on their gender. Our appointment at 18 weeks will confirm if he's right.

Baby A: Sugar and spice and all things nice,
That's what a little girl is made of!

Baby B: Frogs and snails and puppy dog tails,
That's what a little boy is made of!

Developments this week: As I move into the second trimester, A and B shift into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of their systems are fully formed. The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Their fingers will soon begin to open and close, toes will curl, eye muscles will clench and their mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, when I prod at my abdomen, they both squirm in response, although I still am unable to feel either of their movements.
From crown to rump, A and B are each just over 2 inches long and each weighs half an ounce.
They are now the size of a plum!

Week 11

The two fetus are currently enjoying a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through it. But fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds, and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future.
