6 Months Old

The kiddos continue to reach more milestones! They turned 6 months on January 7th. We think it's pretty incredible considering that they're only 11 weeks corrected. We saw Dr. Hiegel (pediatrician) for their 6 month check-up and shots. Deacon was 13 lbs 3-1/4 oz and 23-3/4 inches long. Avigail was 11 lbs 12-3/4 oz and 22-1/2 inches long.

Today, Deacon had a follow up appointment with the opthamologist. He is very near sighted and does need glasses. In 3-5 days he will be the cutest little boy to ever have to wear glasses! He was very tolerant of them when he was being fitted. After they put them on him Tyler said, "I feel like he's ready to go off to college. He looks so smart and sophisticated"! They are very cute on him.

Avigail and Deacon have both discovered their hands. Avigail will hold her hands in front of her face and just stare at them. If she could talk I think she'd say, "where the heck did you come from"? She looks at them like they are strangers and shouldn't be around. Deacon doesn't really admire his hands, but he loves putting them in his mouth. He often tries to fit his whole fist in his mouth, but can't quite get it all in there yet.

Both of the kids have been smiling for a while and have recently started giggling. Hearing them giggle is the best feeling ever. It puts a huge smile on Tyler and my face and makes us feel like we're doing a good job as their parents. Avigail doesn't "talk" too much yet, but she is always very interested in what's going on. She is going to be our curious little girl. Deacon is starting to discover he has a voice. He is such a comedian. After every sneeze, he always sighs with an "ahhhh". He also has so many different facial expressions. He loves his picture being taken and is usually looking at the camera. Avigail stares at him and I think she is trying to figure out what her brother is all about.

They both love to be held and walked around with. They stare at everything! Avigail loves her Sophie the giraffe chew toy (thanks Lucy). Deacon doesn't really have a favorite toy yet, but I'm sure they'll love them all as they get older. They are still pretty young for most of their toys. They both love their jungle gym play mat. They love waving around their arms and kicking their legs. They have much more control over their arms and legs. And, they absolutely love hearing mom sing. I started singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall the other night. Deacon was enjoying the singing, but once I got down to about 75 bottles of beer, Tyler had had enough. Fortunately, my library of songs has grown so I was able to transition to "the song that never ends", another one of Tyler's favorites.

They absolutely love bath time. They now "lounge" in the tub and have one leg hanging over the edge. Deacon will also have an arm hanging over the tub too. As I mentioned earlier, they love to kick. Deacon has learned that his kicks create splashes and makes mommy wet. He seems to think it's pretty funny.

The kids are great cuddle buddies. We love them falling asleep on our chests. They keep us so warm! Avi and Deacon are both still sleeping in their own bassinets in our room. Hopefully we'll transition them to their cribs up in their bedroom soon. During the night, Avigail usually will sleep for about 6 hours straight. Deacon still gets up once in the middle of the night, but we'll take that over the alternative any day.

Tyler and I don't have the time to do anything other than care for the kids. I started work this past Thursday. It was difficult to leave the kiddos, but I'm thankful they're home with their dad. As a stay-at-home dad, Tyler has had no choice but to learn to be more efficient. He is able to eat a whole meal in about 2.5 seconds. Today, he held Deacon over his left shoulder while feeding Avigail on his lap. He can also plug one with a binky and hold it in their mouth while he feeds another. On days the kids have doc appointments, he has even been on time. He is such a great dad.

Tyler and I feel so fortunate to have our little peanut and little monkey in our life. We would do anything for our little preemies. We could just stare at them for hours. They each have their own funny personality, even when they're sleeping, They both definitely have us wrapped around their little fingers. Every night we go to bed, I can't help but think how lucky we are to have them. Our family finally feels complete.
